When to convert JPG to PNG
- • Screenshots & text — PNG keeps edges razor sharp
- • Logos & graphics — flat colours stay clean with no artefacts
- • Editing — PNG is a safe lossless master before further edits
For normal camera photos where file size matters, JPG or WebP is usually the better choice — try our PNG to JPG converter or WebP converter instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my JPG lose quality when converted to PNG?
No. PNG is a lossless format, so every pixel of your JPG is preserved exactly. Note the PNG file will usually be bigger than the original JPG, because JPG uses lossy compression while PNG stores everything.
Why is the PNG file bigger than my JPG?
JPG throws away fine detail to stay small; PNG keeps it all. PNG is ideal for screenshots, logos and images with text or sharp edges — for normal photos, JPG or WebP stays smaller.
Does converting add transparency?
No. Conversion cannot invent transparency — the background stays exactly as it looks in your JPG. Only images that already have an alpha channel (like PNGs) carry transparency.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser with the canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
